The Art Of The Car

Art Car Fest
Although Art Cars are still something of a minority interest, there is no doubting that a strong support movement is springing up around the medium, and with a continued work ethic on the part of those supporters, we may well see breakthroughs beyond what we have already enjoyed in the mass media. The Art Car Fest was the brainchild of three men, and if we were to tell you that two of these were Philo Northrup and Justin Katz, you could probably guess the identity of the other – the indefatigable Harrod Blank, of course.
The patronage of Harrod Blank is no small thing for an art car operation, as an estimated 50million people have seen his films about the medium and he has visited over a hundred cities worldwide in his own cars. Given Katz’s own involvement in projects such as Burning Man and Northrup’s own Art Car pedigree (25 years of involvement in the making of art cars), Art Car Fest can only succeed – and it has, becoming the West Coast’s premier art car event. It seems that the word is spreading, with Art car events popping up everywhere – and with stalwarts like Art Car Fest and Houston’s Art Car Parade, the hope are that this pattern will continue.
