The Art Of The Car
7 Jun
There are almost as many car artists as there are makes of car. And just as with the different makes, each artist will have his or her own individual style. The style will differ — even if only slightly — from that of the others. Certainly, one can take influence from another artist when creating a piece of car art. But unless someone directly copies another artist’s work, there will be something about the picture that makes it different, however indefinably.
There are a number of styles into which car art drawings and paintings fall. Some artists prefer to depict cars in a very technical manner, stripped down to the simple, mechanical aspect of the car. These artists, and their work, give the feeling that the car and its technical specifications are the most important thing. Others will depict the car in a specific setting – races being highly popular. In these paintings or drawings, the important thing is not just the car, but its relationship with its surroundings – the depiction of cheering crowds or celebrating drivers goes a long way towards this.
In addition to this, there is an increasingly popular manner of depicting cars in cartoon style. This allows the artist to depict the fun aspects of the car, and the parent who is a car enthusiast to hopefully instil in their child an early appreciation for the aesthetic (and other) qualities of cars, introducing more serious and technical aspects as time goes on.
