As much as we love to look at paintings, drawings and photographic art, it all has something in common – that it is two-dimensional, no matter what the talent of the artist. Whether produced on canvas or on paper, it is impossible for the pictorial representation of a car to ever go beyond those two dimensions, and for some people, the true beauty of the car is lost as a result. But then, not every car artist is a painter – just look at the work of Larry Braun.

Braun is a sculptor who creates highly realistic pieces connected with the world of cars. The subjects of his pieces vary between popular figures from the world of automobiles, technical parts from car engines or, as often as not, tableaux depicting a frozen moment in time with the car as a center piece. A classically trained artist, Braun has a very finely tuned artistic appreciation and his pieces are remarkable for their realism and attention to detail.

Recognising the importance of detail in this branch of art, Larry Braun has used his finely-tuned eye to look closely at the world of automobiles and deliver a series of pieces that bring out the humanity of their subjects while at the same time closely depicting subjects of some technical importance. His work is appreciated so greatly by the car art fraternity that he has even been commissioned to design awards to be given to others – not that he is short of recognition himself.
