The Art Of The Car
26 Jun
Although Houston is the undeniable home of the art car movement – that’s where it truly started, and that is where the biggest art car pilgrimage still goes every year – the true test of the movement’s popularity is in how it translates to other places. If all that the movement did was maintain a museum and a parade in Houston then it would really be more of a Houston thing than an art car thing. Luckily, then, residents of other cities are getting behind the idea – the latest being London, which has a parade planned for Sunday 14th June.
The London parade is the brainchild of one Esther de Angelis, who is channelling her energies into rousing a collection of individuals – both members of the public and celebrities. For a city so large, London has gone quite some time without an art car parade and Esther’s decision to launch one could see the art car definitively making its mark on one of the oldest and most prestigious cities on the planet. A website is to be found at http://www.londonartcarparade.com and there is a mini site on Facebook at http://tinyurl.com/londonartcar – all informing the interested parties of developments as they happen.
Esther is seeking to show the people of London something of “how easily the ordinary can become extraordinary”. Bringing the London Art Car Parade to the attention of the masses will be the first step in this capacity. Check out Esther’s sites to find out how you can be a part of the birth of a movement.
