Car art is something that may not be entirely familiar to non-aficionados. When you ask the average individual what comes to mind when they hear the word “art”, fairly often it will be something along the lines of bowls of fruit or handsome women who don’t really smile very much. The impression often created by the term is of something that has been around for a long time, something that would look equally at home in a museum or a gallery.

Yet there really is no getting around it, the importance of cars in the world of art is something that is clear and present. Art does not need to have been created a hundred or more years ago to be worthwhile. If it did, then that would put a stop to the whole concept of car art. The car was only perfected as a mode of transport in the last couple of centuries, and depictions of it as an art form have been prominent only in the last 60 or 70 years. Since then, though, car art has become a diverse world.

You can buy a piece of art that depicts an early road car in a pastoral scene of sorts, or a piece that depicts a race from the middle of the 20th century. As more cars are developed, more subjects are created for the car artist. The car art fan can now choose his favorite artist from a list that only continues to grow, and features names from the US, from Europe and further afield – all of whom bring something different and interesting to the medium.
