One thing that seems to unite art car communities is a tendency to think about things from an angle that regular artists do not. Okay, so it would be fair to say that the average artist comes from a certain kind of liberal standpoint (within reason). Art cars, however, seem to have a bit of a “hippy” aspect to them more often than not. This means that as a result, you will often see an art car that takes the animal world as its inspiration. You may well have seen a few examples of this habit. The late Tom Kennedy created “Ripper the Friendly Shark”, a piece which guaranteed him entry to the world of art cars.

Ken Duffy, a legendary art car photographer, took a simple Toyota Prius and added pictures and models of dinosaurs, other prehistoric animals and a Hummer sinking into a tar pit. And the name that he chose to give to this work of art car art? If you like bad puns, this one is a gem. Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on PriusTorik!

And what about Gregory Beylerian’s 1968 Volvo? He covered it in elephants – 100 stuffed ones, for clarification. A message of love, peace and conservation is painted on the car to really drive home the point.
