For anyone who loves cars, the thought of a large scale museum dedicated to the veneration of classic automobiles is on a par with the concept of the Louvre for fans of art, or the Globe theatre for fans of stage drama. There is a great deal of store set by the existence of somewhere to put on show amazing pieces of work, and the Kemp Museum in Kansas is that kind of place, designed for people who love cars.

As well as having actual examples of the cars that have made a difference within the walls of the Museum, the Kemp is home to a large collection of art based on those cars. One of its current special exhibitions is dedicated to the Hungarian designer Benedek Toth, who came to America nearly thirty years ago with a dream of becoming a professional car designer. He achieved this and a great deal more, and his sketches and drawings have become part of a major exhibition.

To a great many people, the existence of a car art museum is a way of keeping alive the spirit of innovation. It is often said that if you don’t know where you have been you cannot know where you are going. This is demonstrated more completely by the collections on show at the Kemp than by anything else one could possibly name.
