The Art Of The Car
5 Oct
A British car artist tends to have a choice of two ways to go. They can portray the old, genteel automobiles that were the order of the day in their home country all those years back when cars were a luxury owned by a small percentage of the population, or they can go with the Americana approach and deliver pictures of the classic automobiles of the US in the fifties and sixties. Generally, it is left to others to portray the fascination with the European sports car which has informed so much of modern motoring. Craig Warwick, however, has seen the European model for what it is – art on wheels, and has recaptured some of that art for canvas.
Perhaps the British love of America is the reason for the predominance of American muscle cars in the portfolio of the typical British car artist, but Craig Warwick is nonetheless held in high regard by the American practitioners of the medium and is one of a few British artists to have gained entry to the hallowed ranks of the Automotive Fine Arts Society. From their website or from his own it is possible to buy for a very reasonable price some examples of his work – which varies between pictures of cars at rest with a beautiful girl in the foreground or racing scenes depicting well-known racing drivers.
Bugatti, Ferrari or Maserati – all have been depicted in the giclée style by Craig Warwick, and this has led to him being given commissions by more than one constructor to depict their cars and show them in their best light – something he invariably achieves.
