The Art Of The Car
23 Nov
There can be no doubting the influence of the Corvette on the world of car appreciation in the present day. One has only to say the name and then sit back to hear the flood of admiring remarks about the company, its cars and everything that goes with both. Put quite simply, the Corvette is a classic car that has been welcomed into the pantheon of car art almost before anyone put brush to canvas to depict one at its best. Finding Corvette-related car art is really not a difficult thing to do. Trying to fit it all into one search is the tricky part.
How many cars have been recognised in song by one of the present-day megastars of pop or rock, for example? Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” must surely be considered the definitive car song of the modern age, and gives a nod to the popularity of this car in that color – something which informs a great deal of the Corvette car art available at the present time. There is something simple and classic about the lines of the “’vette” that other cars find difficult to match up to.
Whether it be Hugo Prado’s bold, definitive giclée representation, Dana Forrester’s classic watercolor depiction or the oils of Idar Andorsen, the Corvette (red, always) is a classic worthy of depiction by the masters of car art and has been co-opted into the definitive Hall of Fame that gear heads keep for themselves – right up there with the Alfa Romeo.
