The Art Of The Car
4 Feb
It has been well established that not all of us have the artistic talents to create a work that can sit proudly on the mantelpiece or can sell for real money, unfortunate as that is. This is why there are people out there who have gained a reputation as world-class car artists, known for their depictions of classic cars.
One famous car artist is Marc Lacourciere – known to some as “Motor Marc” – a Canadian artist who has a large body of work behind him but still can be called upon for private commissions. Specializing in lithograph and giclee styles, Marc is known for his depictions of Corvettes and NASCAR vehicles, as well as motorcycle art. Lacourciere depicts with bold colors and strong graphics a world of classic sports cars.
Another renowned car artist is Frederick Yohe. The Philadelphia-based artist depicts old classics in a naturalistic style and setting. The richness of Yohes work is testament to his status as a true artistic all-rounder with a portfolio that goes beyond car art. A quality portrait artist, Yohe paints for the joy of it and this is never more obvious than when one looks at his depictions of old race cars and 1930s-style classics. He has said before that the color black entranced him when he first started painting, and this still comes through in his work, filled as it is with dark shades emphasized by shots of silver and chrome.
These are just two of the most popular international car artists, and there are many others out there. Lacourciere and Yohe happen to be two exceptional artists whose works are a true example of what makes great car art.
