Flickr is a photo-sharing website which, although it may not get as much publicity as YouTube, has done for the still image what the latter has done for video-sharing. While there are numerous photo hosting sites out there – a goodly number of which are free just like Flickr – it has become the sharing site of choice. This is due in no small part to the community feel of the site, and that probably also explains why the art car movement has taken it to their hearts. A short search on Flickr for “art cars” will let you in to a world of fascinating images.

Any major event involving art cars these days tends to have its own Flickr photo stream. The recent Minneapolis Art Car parade is covered in more than a few sets, as are just about all the parades you could name. The comment system on Flickr allows you to leave messages and these will generally be responded to especially if you post questions. One user, Delta Niner, has posted a few sets in memory of Houston Art Car Klub legend Jeff Towns, who tragically died in July after a long battle with depression. A site with a community spirit for a movement which is all about community.
