The Art Of The Car
27 Mar
There can be few artists in the pantheon of car art who have a CV as interesting and varied as Stanley Rose. This painter, specialising in watercolors, has created some of the more interesting pieces in the gallery of the automobile, and has had a life which is just about perfect for art – indeed, so perfect for many people that it makes a very persuasive case for learning to paint. However, it is worth recognising that Stanley Rose is not just a painter, he is a remarkably talented painter. Not only that, he is a teacher of the medium in which he excels, and has been invited to show his work at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance – a privilege extended only to the best in the business.
As well as all of this, Stanley has set up studios in some of the most interesting locations one could think of. From 1985 to 1989 he had his studio on a Dutch barge where he ran workshops on the medium of watercolor with Avril, his wife. In 1991 he moved to his current location, a 14th Century chateau in France’s Merry sur Yonne – where he keeps his collection of classic cars. It would be easy to hate him, until you look at his paintings.
