Some people are born into car art, and others have car art thrust upon them. While both of those descriptions could arguably apply to Tim Layzell, nobody could argue that he is anything other than delighted to be doing for a living what he has done reputedly since the age of three. Just 27 now, Tim was honored by the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance this year as the artist for their Retro Auto section. The piece he used depicted a pair of Morgan three wheelers motoring along the world famous Big Sur, and its bold colors were characteristic of his body of work – one which has grown to quite a size for an artist of his age.
Tim has already exhibited at several events of immense prestige at home (which for him means Britain) and abroad. Key exhibitions where he has shown his work include the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, the Monaco Grand Prix and of course the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. At the age of thirteen he won the British Racing Driver’s Club Young Motoring Artist Award. An impressive enough achievement in itself, and that is before you take into account that the award was open to artists up to the age of 23. As part of his prize, his winning works were exhibited alongside those of some of the premier car artists at Silverstone. From that point on, the name of Tim Layzell has been growing in popularity in the world of car art.
