The Art Of The Car
15 Mar
Hawaiian car artist Niles Nakaoka has combined his gift for art with his love of Formula One motor racing to an effect which any onlooker would agree looks stunning. Nakaoka, who still lives in his native Honolulu, has recognised how the vivid color of a Formula One motor race makes for a fantastic watercolor – which is lucky for him, as it is in the field of watercolors that he specialises.
His painting style is a clear example of action painting as it should be – bright, blistering and brilliant, it is easy to see why Formula One is his muse of choice. Anyone who has witnessed the throngs of Ferrari’s tifosi at a Grand Prix race will know of the importance that color has in Formula One, with the stark, brilliant red a clear mark of quality that has been recognised for years and immediately associated with the team, the maker of these cars.
Niles Nakaoka says that he loves the unpredictable results of watercolor, and the almost chaotic sense of uncertainty – which makes for a perfect marriage of muse and medium considering his support of Formula One. To really appreciate his paintings, do try and see them in person. That is when they come alive.
