The Art Of The Car
18 Mar
Although a good piece of work in the art car medium will always catch peoples’ eyes, there is a lot of reason to believe that it continues to be a minority art form. Not that this is a bad thing per se, as very often the best work culturally comes from what is effectively a counter-cultural level. However, to ask the average man in the street what they think of art cars would bring a reaction of silent incomprehension. That is of course unless the average man in the street is exposed to something like the Minnesota Art Car Parade. Once witnessed, this is the kind of thing you do not forget.
A summer event, usually taking place in July, the Minnesota Art Car Parade is a way of putting countless art cars on show all at once, and bringing to the people of Minnesota an awareness of just how impressive a medium the art car has come to be. Rather than just one car at a time, the idea of the parade is to show the massive diversity of artists’ ideas and methodologies. While introducing a new audience to a world that allows art to escape from the four corners of a canvas and become a moving, functioning process that leaves a deep impression on the viewer and allows the creator to really say something about themselves or the world.
